Pronoun Respector. Now that you blocked me because I had the audacity to point out all the flaws in your thinking I'll post it here for the community to judge. Oh, he can't see this because he blocked me. Oh well.
When reading anything Pronoun Respector posts keep in mind that he literally believes that you can't deplete wells or aquifers because, well you know rain. In his world you can tap into aquifers that have taken millions of years to form and spray millions of gallons per day into evaporative cooling towers and it doesn't matter to the local population in a desert that relies on that fresh water supply because, yeah you know, rain.
He proffered this view after claiming people that were concerned with the millions of gallons of fresh water that data centers use per day to cool their computers were morons. He said the were morons because these data centers used “closed loop” cooling systems. I pointed out to him that he was incorrect, they use evaporative cooling systems that literally take those millions of gallons and evaporate them into the atmosphere in cooling towers.
Rather than say something like, “oh” he instead doubled down and said the concerned people were still morons because the water pumped out the wells and aquifers was just going into the atmosphere and therefore we were all stupid because it would just return as rain.
I pointed out to him that the rain is dispersed across the planet, it doesn’t go up into the sky and then return to the same source it was pumped out of. He basically responded that I didn’t understand how weather worked.
So I responded by stating in his world he apparently ignored that, in fact, wells go dry, and aquifers become depleted. If his framework of weather existed then one would never have to worry about pumping a well or aquifer dry. But since they do go dry obviously his model doesn’t reflect reality.
The only reason I kept pushing back is because I happen to live in the desert. I have witnessed large corporations come in and drill wells and then pump unbelievable amounts of water from the very large aquifer that sits beneath a huge area. That aquifer is completely inter connected. In other words if someone 20 miles away drills a huge number of wells and begins drawing tremendous amounts of water out of the aquifer it drops down everywhere the aquifer exists. Every other farmer, rancher, or homeowner that relies on that aquifer has their well go dry as their well is no longer deep enough to reach the water. Even if the aquifer isn’t initially completely depleted the depths of the wells required to reach it are so deep, approaching 1,000ft now, that normal ranchers and farmers can’t even afford to drill them.
The aquifer that exists, or rather existed as its largely depleted now, took at least hundreds of thousands of years to slowly form or many geologists think it took millions of years. Once it is completely depleted yes it might refill. Might because weather patterns change and the aquifer was filled when this area was not a desert but the entire world population may not exist by the time it is a usable aquifer again.
Thinking like Pronoun Respector’s is dangerous in that some people believe it. When such a straightforward “simple” explanation is provided to allow people to think, “Yeah, why are you getting so worked up about? Data centers are great and obviously the water use isn’t a problem.” You land up with greedy corporations being allowed to deplete a resource that much of the public relies on.
