Ive never posted here but As a puertorican i feel like a have to speak on the subject
The "Bad Bunny is actually American" argument is so annoying. I hate that my people/identity is being use to score political points.
I know it feels good to "own the right" but to simply just say "Puerticans are Americans" and/or to say actually "Puertorico is a part of the U.S." but out how PuertoRico became a part of the U.S. leave an entire colonial aspect out of the argument.
This is especially frustrating with the left (cuz they're the ones who claim to stand up for all disenfranchised people) because they say that to score political points but don't talk about;
1. How puertorico was invaded right before Spain was gonna grant them their independence.
2. How the citizenship was granted in the middle of WW1 and people got immediately drafted (a extremely disgusting thing if you ask me)
3. How U.S. army bomb Puerto rico in the 50's because for the Pro independence movement(what would legally be clarified as U.S. army operating on U.S. soil bombing its own citizens)
4. How we don't vote in elections. (This to me is the biggest point that prove leftist hypocrisy and defeats the "we stand for everyone) even though we participate in every war since WW1.
5. How U.S. use Viques and Culebras for testing bomb and when they left (do to puertoricans pressuring them to leave) the didn't clean up and to this day is up to the locals to clean their mess.
6. How puertorico is being use as an HQ to plan Venezuela invasion.
And I could go on.
If this come across as agresive its because im angry that we only get mention for the sole purpose of scoring political points as if we're pawn or something.
But please please please if you're going to mention "Puerto Rico is a part of U.S." and not explain why/how, or advocate to fix the injustices the U.S. have impose on the island let me inform you that youre just a shallow as the people youre trying to "own."
Honestly it comes across as condescending and if that's how yall gonna "defend us." I rather yall dont. And if you actually care please pick up a book and/or interview people more knowledgeable on the subject.
Or at bare at bare minimum when you say "Puertorico is part of the U.S." include the part of "because is a colony of the U.S."
Thanks for your time, have an excellent weekend.
