Okay, going to throw an odd perspective out into the void regarding Robinson’s text vocabulary.

My wife was 27 when we met. One of the initial things I noticed about her was that she often used terminology that seemed weird to me. It wasn’t bad or anything. It was just different word choices from what I was used to.

What I came to realize was that she talked like her parents, both of whom had decades in law enforcement. Her brothers were, by and large, military, law enforcement, or lawyers.

She talked that way because that is how she learned to talk growing up in a house with law enforcement. She has lost the vocabulary as she has gotten older. But when she was 27, less than ten years removed from living at home, that is how she talked. The shooter is only 22.

I say this because a lot of the words people are pointing out are inconsistent with someone his age, are words used by law enforcement. They are the kind of words my wife used to say in casual conversation. I would definitely like to see some message threads that have absolutely nothing to do with the shooting to determine whether that vocabulary was normal.

My suspicion was that the texts were sent to make his partner seem like she had no knowledge of it. As Krystal pointed out, he confessed the crime via text, although he intended to take the secret to his grave. That makes zero sense. The other thing about my wife is that she is very aware of law enforcement surveillance tracking tech, because that is the kind of stuff they talked about at the dinner table, cookouts, etc. His dad was law enforcement. He knew he would be caught if he made it out alive and may have just been trying to protect the people he cared about.

The other thing I would point out, on the subject of his “radicalization,” is that - by all accounts - his family were conservatives who grew increasingly “MAGA.”

My wife experienced the same thing from her dad and it definitely made her move into the world of being more loudly left wing. Her beliefs didn’t change but the way she projected them certainly did.

When I met her dad, he was a “fiscally conservative, socially liberal” Republican. He didn’t have a bad thing to say about anyone. All were welcome. And she wore it like a badge of honor. She loved that her dad was this huge, powerful, intimidating “cop” who accepted all her weird friends and was this sort of Atticus Finch personality.

His descent into “blind MAGA follower” has destroyed her. Because that is not the man who raised her. So, when it comes to the shooter’s radicalization, I will be curious to see whether it turns out that impulse was activated a little closer to home, as opposed to at school.

Sorry for the novella. Just a couple of thoughts I figured may be worth sharing that I haven’t really seen anyone else mention.

I normally agree with Ryan all the time but found his position on Kirk to be bonkers. I took two things away:

1) Hate speech should be called out until THE MOMENT someone dies, at which point we can never and should never posthumously criticize, for it would imply we are supporting death.

2) There is never any such things as hate speech. Any speech that is not criminal is “the right way.” With this framing, there is no way that calling someone “racist” or “homophobic” could ever be hate speech.

Do I have that right?

I was quite glad that Griffin and Krystal were here on Friday’s show to check Ryan and Emily on their outrageous coverage of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday.
