I have to admit, I was disappointed to hear the discussion of the casing inscriptions today with no mea culpa from Emily. I listened to her segment with Sohrab Ahmari on Unherd yesterday where they ran with the "transgender ideology" inscription claim totally uncritically, as if this murder was self-evidently a culture wars episode predicated on transgender issues. I understand that the claim was published in the WSJ; I got the exact same breaking news alert. But I'm not a journalist, and yet I still had the basic sense to think, "Hmm, this is a rapidly developing investigation. There is no direct quote or image of the casing. Maybe this is true and an indication of motive, but I should wait for something more solid than a leaked internal preliminary report before assuming that this shooting was about transgender issues." Today, we got more details about the inscriptions, and there was nothing that had a clear connection to that. Emily jumped the gun on this one, contributing to some really inflammatory and ultimately misguided discourse at a time when passions are running high and many are looking for whom to blame. People make mistakes, and I can get past it, but just to plow ahead without acknowledging the mistake is a real hit to Emily's credibility for me.
For what it's worth, transgender issues are not a hobby horse of mine. I don't begrudge Emily or anyone on the Breaking Points team for their opinions on those issues. Had it turned out that this murder was about that, then by all means cover the story accurately and fully. But there is no evidence that that is the case, and it wasn't right to frame it that way on such flimsy evidence.
By analogy, I remember Krystal and Saagar taking the time to say, "we got this one wrong," and explaining why at the start of the Russian campaign in Ukraine in 2022. It signaled that they take responsibility for their role as a source of information for their listeners, influencing how they interpret and respond to big events, and that presumably that there was something to learn from the mistake. They handled that well. I would expect Emily to do the same in this case.

Here's the NIJ research that Trump took down in the wake of CK's assassination.
It unequivocally states the fact that far-right violence outpaces all other types of domestic terrorism and violent extremism.
Keep this in-mind when you see news programs and talking heads, including some in this community, talk about how domestic terrorism and violent extremism mostly comes from the left.
BIG PROPS to the BP team hopping on a livestream to ad-lib discuss what's going on. Love when you guys do this.
ONLY SUGGESTION is to get more Moderators in your live chat. A lot of just plain Bot takes and people threatening to kill krystal for 0 reason. PLZ get more mods to remove hate from the BP family
