I'm pretty over this whole "oh the optics are bad" argumentation as if any kind of protesting against the status quo has good optics when the media spends so much time telling everyone the optics are bad. Most people disapproved of the largely peaceful civil rights protests in the 60s.
Beyond that, if strangers in masks are coming into your community and kidnapping community members, with the threat of being disappeared to a foreign country, is this violence not proportionate when no one is stopping it? We have no functional opposition party. The current admin outright ignores court orders, pushes the absolute limit of executive authority, and de-facto refers to critics as criminals.
Protesting has NO effect if the moment you are pushed you don't push back. This forced nationalist lens where "American flag = good " and "foreign flag=bad" is so brain dead to me.
To be honest, no person is gonna change their mind about this issue because they saw some people in CALIFORNIA, in a city with a Spanish name, wave a Mexican flag while Mexican immigrants are outright being targeted.

A lot of crocodile tears over Mexican flags and burning waymos.
You know what really blows my mind? In America, a Black man with a cop’s knee on his neck can’t even point to the literal boot killing him—on video—and have half the country believe what they saw. People will twist themselves into knots to defend the cop, inventing every excuse, bringing up drugs, anything to protect the uniform, not the human being dying beneath it. That’s some “ignore your lying eyes” 1984-level propaganda right there.
But let a bunch of right-wing folks storm the actual Capitol building, beat down cops, chant about hanging the vice president, and wave traitor flags, and suddenly it’s time for endless understanding, excuses, “context.” Their rage gets coddled. Their violence gets called “just protest.” The 140+ cops who got injured that day? “Well, it wasn’t technically murder, so what’s the big deal?”
Meanwhile, when Mexican-Americans protest in LA—waving the flag of a country ...
