I have said this to BP a dozen times. The educational system has been under political attack since the early 1980s, and it culminated in the passage of No Child Left Behind Act in 2002. As someone who studied educational theory for three decades, I can tell you that those in power dumbed down public educational. Standardized tests and curriculum has made it impossible for teachers to teach. The problem is that schools are teaching boredom, rule following, order and passing tests. Teaching kids phonics does not teach kids to love reading. Reading books they choose is what teaches kids to love books. Phonics is a tool to read, not a tool to pass tests which is how it's used today. Look at average reading levels in 2000 and look at reading levels now. You will see how those levels dropped because of testing and standardization, not screens. A child can be taught to navigate screens for critical knowledge. We don't teach young people to think critical in any aspect of our educational ...
I’m sick of the “AI is inevitable” tech bro bullshite… we have been living without it, just because we CAN do something, doesn’t mean we should and we all KNOW that we won’t get a say in how it’s used and those with the power to wield it are going to use it to further oppress us and not for our benefit. (Mass surveillance and weaponry, for example) I also want to hear voices of women in tech, men are so nearsighted. “Capitalism has been running smoothly”, seriously?!?! I don’t think people are rejecting AI and data centers for some “misunderstanding” of what AI will be, I think people are rejecting it because they understand FAR too well how it will be used.
